Cookie Policy

Check Local uses cookies and similar browser storage to keep the product working and — only with your permission — to understand how it's used. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

What we use

Essential — always on

  • cl_token — a signed session token so you stay logged in. Stored in a secure, HttpOnly cookie (not readable by scripts). Expires after about 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • cl_cookie_consent_v2 — remembers your cookie choice on this device.
  • map.preferred-lens — remembers the last lens you opened so the map opens where you left off.

Analytics — optional, no cookies until you accept

We use Google Analytics to understand how Check Local is used in aggregate (which pages and lenses are opened, where the map breaks). We run it in Google's Consent Mode: until you choose "Accept", it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device — it only sends anonymous, aggregated signals with no identifier, which Google uses to estimate overall usage. You can withdraw at any time using the button below.

When you choose "Accept", Google Analytics additionally sets these cookies to measure your visits more precisely:

  • _ga — distinguishes one browser from another with a random ID (no name, no email). Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_* — keeps track of a single visit (session) so pages you view in one sitting are grouped together. Expires after 2 years.

Google LLC processes this data on our behalf; see section 4 of our privacy policy for the transfer safeguards.

What we never use

  • Third-party advertising cookies.
  • Social network tracking pixels.
  • Cross-site identifiers or fingerprinting.

Changing your choice

You can change your mind at any time — withdrawing is as easy as accepting:

If you switch analytics off, Google Analytics stops immediately and we delete its cookies from your browser. Clearing our cookies in your browser settings also works — the banner will re-appear on your next visit. If you have an account, this only affects the device you do it on.

Newsletter

The newsletter signup in the footer doesn't set any cookies. If you sign up, your email address is sent to Mailchimp (our newsletter provider) and you'll receive a confirmation email — you're only subscribed once you click it. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.
