About Check Local

We're trying to make moving an honest decision.

Most people move home three or four times in a lifetime. Each time, the information that matters is split across a dozen government sites, a dozen agent listings, and a forum thread from 2014. Check Local pulls it all onto a single map and reads it back to you in plain English.

Why

Property sites sell. We just read.

Rightmove and Zoopla are brilliant at showing you listings. They are not in the business of telling you whether the area itself is a good idea. That's not a criticism — it's a different job.

We're the second site you open. The one that tells you the truth about the place before you fall in love with the kitchen.

What we hold to

Four things we won't break.

Government sources, dated
Every figure on Check Local traces back to a public dataset (ONS, Ofsted, DfE, Police.uk, EPC, Land Registry). Each one carries its own freshness date.
Map-first, never a wall of numbers
If you can see it on the map, you understand it faster. Stats live next to the place they describe, not in a 40-row table.
AI you can trust
Our Rundowns are grounded — they only describe what the area's own numbers say, with the national benchmark as context. No vibes, no filler.
Free to explore, paid when it counts
The map, all 9 lenses, and the Overview are free to explore. We charge for Moving Mode because moving is the moment the value lands.
Where we come from

Built in the UK, for the UK.

Check Local is a small, independent team. We only cover the UK — every postcode, every built-up area, every ward — because doing one country properly is more useful than doing fifty badly.

We're not VC-funded. We're not an agent. We don't sell your data. We're paid by people who choose to upgrade to Moving Mode.
