Upper Garth Road

Upper Garth Road sits close in above Bangor's centre, the kind of dense terraced streetscape where front doors open almost straight onto the pavement and student houses sit shoulder to shoulder with long-term residents. The median age here is just under twenty-six, and that number tells you most of what you need to know before you've walked the length of it — this is a young, transient, university-adjacent population, and the streets have that particular energy of a place that empties out in summer and fills up hard in September.

The terraced house is the default here, and freehold is the norm rather than the exception — of the recent sales tracked, eight in nine were freehold, so a For Sale board on this street is overwhelmingly a small terrace you'll own outright rather than a leasehold flat. Prices sit above the Gwynedd median by a noticeable margin, though still modest against the Welsh average detached or semi price — this is affordable terraced housing rather than aspirational family stock. Schooling locally centres on Ysgol Hirael, a community primary; Wales doesn't grade schools the way England does, so there's no Ofsted-style shorthand to lean on here, just a solid, ordinarily-sized primary serving the neighbourhood. Don't come looking for a rail-commuter belt — there's no station listed for this address, and the practical shape of daily life is local: on foot, into Bangor, or by bus.

Green space and density are the other half of the picture. Population density is high, close to the Welsh average for built-up areas, which matches the terraced-street feel rather than anything more spread out. The crime pattern is worth reading as a shape rather than a headline: violence and sexual offences and anti-social behaviour together account for over 40% of recorded incidents, which is the profile of a compact, mixed, nightlife-adjacent neighbourhood rather than a quiet cul-de-sac — and it's consistent with the area's very high overall grade sitting alongside a noticeably more middling safety grade. That's the one grade out of step with the rest, and it's the detail worth sitting with if a quiet street is what you're after. Connectivity is solid, with decent full-fibre coverage, and the general liveability grade here is about as high as they come.
