Summary of Sutton St Nicholas
Sutton St Nicholas reads as detached houses on generous plots, gravel drives, and a housing stock that barely turns over — this is a village people move into once and stay, the median age north of fifty telling you most of the school run finished a while ago. It's the kind of place where a For Sale board is news, not a Tuesday occurrence.
The numbers on crime here need a health warning before anything else: with a population of just 52 in this dataset, a single year's count of a few dozen incidents produces crime-rate comparisons that look alarming against Herefordshire as a whole but really reflect a tiny sample size doing strange things to a percentage. What you can trust more is the overall grade picture — an A for safety and overall character sits alongside strong marks for affordability, transport and connectivity, with schools and health both comfortably above the national bar. Sutton Primary Academy is the only school in the immediate picture, an academy converter with 217 pupils; there's no Ofsted rating attached in this data, so judge it on visiting rather than on a letter that isn't there.
Housing here is unambiguous: detached freehold homes dominate the recent sales, with a median price around £470,000 — that's roughly two-thirds higher than the Herefordshire average and comfortably above the West Midlands regional median too, placing Sutton St Nicholas in the more expensive tier of an already pricier county. Rents run below the national figure, which tells you this is a place people buy into rather than pass through; a new-build rate of zero confirms the stock is established, not estate-fresh. Green space is modest in raw hectares but full-fibre broadband reaches over four in five properties, so remote working here is entirely workable if the commute isn't daily.
