Summary of Stone Gallows Hill
Stone Gallows Hill reads as detached-house country: big plots, gravel drives, the kind of quiet that comes from low density rather than any effort to manufacture it. You won't find a high street here so much as a scatter of houses that feels more hamlet than suburb, and the people you see about are older rather than younger — this is a place with a median age of fifty, not a graduate-flatshare postcode.
The property picture and the money picture tell the same story. Detached houses dominate the sales here, freehold is the default, and the median sale price of £385,000 sits comfortably above both the national figure and the Somerset average — put together with an income decile of nine, this is one of the better-off corners of the South West, not a stretch-yourself-to-get-in kind of place. Schools are thin on the ground rather than absent: Trull Church of England VA Primary carries a Good rating, and its presence alongside a small free school suggests families here are more likely to be settled locally than moving in for the school run.
Green space and quiet dominate the weekend shape more than restaurants or nightlife — there's little sign of a food scene to speak of, and life here seems to be lived on the land around the houses rather than out at venues. Connectivity is solid rather than flashy: full fibre reaches most homes, which matters more day to day than any bar or bistro count. The one figure worth sitting with is crime. The headline "1 in 12 months" sounds almost too good, but the fuller breakdown shows the more realistic pattern — a modest tally of incidents, weighted towards violence and anti-social behaviour, and a crime rate that on paper reads thousands of percent above the Somerset average. With a population this small, a handful of incidents swings the percentage wildly; it's a scale effect as much as a safety signal, and the safety grade itself sits solidly in the B+ band alongside everything else, so treat the raw percentage with some caution rather than alarm.
