Stoke Bruerne

Stoke Bruerne is the kind of place where the canal does most of the talking — stone cottages, a lock flight, boats moving at walking pace, and not much passing traffic beyond people who've come specifically to look at the water. It reads as a village built around a single feature rather than a through-road, and that shapes everything else about living here.

The numbers behind that impression are unusual, and worth reading carefully rather than at face value. With a population in the dozens rather than thousands, this is a very small, low-density pocket of West Northamptonshire, and that scale distorts anything expressed as a rate — including crime. A single reported incident over twelve months sounds negligible, but because the resident base is so tiny, the same handful of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage reports that would barely register in a larger village pushes the comparative crime rate far above the parent authority's average. Treat that as a quirk of small numbers rather than a lived sense of danger — the grade pattern itself stays solidly mid-to-high across safety, housing, transport and connectivity, with nightlife the standout and health the one area sitting a notch below the rest.

On schools and commuting, there's one school actually in the village — Stoke Bruerne Church of England Primary, a small voluntary controlled school with around seventy pupils — plus Paulerspury Church of England Primary within reach nearby. Neither has a published Ofsted rating in this data, so judge them on the ground rather than the badge. There's no rail station attached to the village itself, which fits the picture: this isn't a commuter-belt address, it's somewhere you choose for the setting first and work around the logistics second. Full-fibre coverage is strong, which softens that a little for anyone working from home.
