Scotland Hills

Scotland Hills doesn't really have a high street in the way most suburbs do — with a population barely into three figures and density well below the regional norm, this is a scattering of houses rather than a town centre, and the property mix reflects it: detached houses, mostly freehold, sold alongside the odd flat and terrace, the kind of place where a For Sale board means a family home rather than a flat conversion.

There's no rail station or named secondary school in the picture here, and with a single bus stop logged, this isn't a place you'd choose for a car-free commute. What you do get is Littlebourne Church of England Primary School, a small voluntary controlled school with just over a hundred pupils — the sort of place that suits a family who has already decided the school run matters more than the commute. A median age in the late forties, well above both the national and South East averages, tells you this is a settled population rather than one cycling through with small children; people move here and stay.

Green space per head runs close to the regional figure, though there's no single named park pulling people out of their gardens, and with no restaurants or cafés recorded, meals out mean driving somewhere else. That's the trade a place this size makes: what it lacks in amenity on the doorstep, it makes up in quiet. Crime is low in raw terms — six incidents logged in the past year — but the mix is worth reading properly, since violence and sexual offences account for close to half of all recorded crime here, a heavier share than the volume alone suggests, alongside criminal damage and anti-social behaviour making up most of the rest. Against a base this small, a handful of incidents moves the percentages a long way, so treat the shape with some caution rather than alarm.
