Millison's Wood

Millison's Wood is the kind of place where the houses do the talking: big detached plots behind hedgerows, gravel drives, nothing terraced in sight unless you count the odd cottage. There's no high street to speak of, no parade of shops — this is a scattering of homes rather than a settlement with a centre, and that's the whole point of living here.

The property market backs this up plainly. Detached homes dominate the sales here, every single one of the recent sales freehold, and the median price of £467,500 sits well above both Solihull's own figure and the national average — this is a place bought outright, not financed into with a starter mortgage. A board outside one of these houses is advertising space and privacy, not proximity to a station platform, and indeed transport is the one grade that lags noticeably behind everything else: getting around by public transport is not what this village is built for, and you'd want a car as a matter of course rather than convenience. Schooling nearby is solid rather than spectacular — Berkswell Church of England Primary carries a Good rating with a decent-sized roll of 235 pupils, a sensible option for the families here, though with a median age of 52, this reads more as a village of settled households and downsizers-who-didn't than one full of school-run traffic.

Green space here is concentrated rather than abundant — one significant space covering 7.6 hectares services the whole village, which suits a population of just 86 rather better than it would a town. There's no visible restaurant or pub scene in the data, and the nightlife grade reflects that honestly: this isn't somewhere you'd come for an evening out. What you're weighing instead is quiet against convenience, and the safety figures help explain why people accept that trade. Only four crimes were recorded here in the past year — a strikingly low number set against a population this small — even though the breakdown (violence and sexual offences the largest single share) looks superficially similar in shape to bigger places. The parent comparison to Solihull shows a startling crime-rate percentage difference, but with numbers this small, a single incident swings the statistic wildly; the safety grade itself, sitting comfortably at B+ and rated flat over time, is the steadier read. On the wider economic picture, an income and deprivation decile of 8 places Millison's Wood among the better-off, less deprived parts of the country, consistent with the price tag and the profile of the properties changing hands.
