Coed Waun-fawr

Terraced rows dominate here, stone-fronted and close-packed against the hillside, the kind of streets where a for-sale board means a freehold two-up-two-down rather than anything grander — of the sales on record, the vast majority were terraces, all freehold, nothing new-built among them. It's a small place, under 400 people, with a density well below the Welsh average, so it reads more as a tucked-away valley community than a suburb in the usual sense. The median age sits close to 45, a touch above the Welsh norm, which tells you this isn't a place filled with young professionals chasing a first flat — it's settled, familiar, the sort of spot where people tend to stay.

The numbers on crime need a careful read: the area logged just 12 incidents in the past year, a small enough count that the percentage swings look dramatic — violence and sexual offences and anti-social behaviour between them make up around seven in ten recorded incidents. Set against Caerphilly, the wider council area, the crime rate here comes out far higher, and that's the one grade that jars against an otherwise easy profile — everything else, safety included, scores strongly, which is the quirk worth sitting with rather than the headline. Housing is the more reassuring story: a median sale price around £166,500 sits well below both the Welsh and UK averages, and about 13% cheaper than the Caerphilly norm, so on paper this is one of the more affordable corners of the county, sitting in the least-deprived third nationally on the income and deprivation measures. Schooling locally runs through small community primaries — Cwmfelinfach Primary and Ynysddu Primary both serve modest rolls of a couple of hundred pupils or fewer — with Estyn inspecting rather than Ofsted, and no rail station appears in the picture, so this reads as a car-dependent, close-knit place rather than a commuter's shortcut anywhere.
