Churchill Park

Terraced streets dominate here, red-brick and close-packed, with the kind of density that tells you this was built for workers commuting to Cardiff rather than for weekenders looking at the view. Churchill Park sits tight around its own station, and that's the first thing you notice — a suburb built around a railway halt rather than a high street, which gives it a slightly functional, unpretentious feel. You won't find much in the way of nightlife or destination dining; this is a place people live in, not a place people visit.

The practical picture is straightforward. Energlyn & Churchill Park Rail Station puts you on the line without needing a car, and with Aber Rail Station also in range, there's more than one way out if you're commuting into Cardiff or beyond. Housing here is overwhelmingly terraced and freehold — of the recent sales sampled, the vast majority were terraces sold outright rather than leasehold, which is the classic signature of an older Valleys-adjacent suburb rather than a new-build estate. Prices sit close to the Caerphilly average, a touch above it in fact, and terraced homes here have actually been fetching more than the Welsh median for the same property type — a sign that buyers see something in this particular pocket even if the wider area doesn't command premium prices. The one school in the local data, Plasyfelin Primary, is a community school without a published Estyn rating in this dataset, so judge it on visiting rather than on paper.

Green space is thin on the ground — a single recorded plot of just over a hectare — so this isn't an area built around parkland, and day-to-day life leans more on the train line and the terraced streets than on open-air weekends. That thinness is worth sitting with rather than glossing over. What's harder to ignore is the crime picture: violent and sexual offences make up over a third of recorded incidents, with anti-social behaviour and public order offences close behind, and the overall crime rate here runs dramatically higher than the Caerphilly borough average. That's the one grade that jars against an otherwise solid pattern — connectivity, environment, and housing all read comfortably above the Welsh average, and the overall grade lands as one of the best you'll see, but safety is the sharpest of contrasts, sitting at the very top of the scale despite that crime volume, which suggests the underlying numbers deserve a closer look before you take either reading at face value.
