Buckhorn Weston

Detached stone and brick houses, generous gardens, cars rather than pavements doing the work of getting about — this is the visual grammar of Buckhorn Weston, and it tells you most of what you need to know before you read another word. There's no high street to speak of, no cluster of shops pulling in passing trade. What you get instead is quiet, space, and the sense that everyone here has chosen it deliberately rather than landed by accident.

The numbers behind that impression are unusually stark, and worth reading carefully rather than at face value. Crime sits at a single figure for the whole year, which sounds almost too good to be true and is really just a function of how few people live here — the "6,586% higher than Dorset" comparison you might stumble across is a statistical artefact of a tiny population, not a warning sign. What it does confirm is that this is a genuinely low-crime, low-density corner of the South West, well below the county average in any real sense. Median age is 56, roughly fifteen years above the national figure, and that shapes everything else: this isn't a village geared around young families or commuter timetables. There's no rail station in the picture and only a couple of transport stops, so a car is not optional — it's the operating system of daily life here.

Housing follows the same logic. Fourteen recorded sales, dominated by detached freehold houses, with a median price around £442,500 — comfortably above both the Dorset and national medians, and detached homes here fetch more than the equivalent nationally too. A "For Sale" board on this lane is advertising space, privacy and permanence, not a starter home or a rental yield. Rent, where it exists, sits close to the national average, but this reads overwhelmingly as an owner-occupier's village, not a landlord's one. Schools are thin on the ground within the data — St George's Church of England School in nearby Bourton is the one named option, a small primary academy — so anyone with school-age children will be looking beyond the village boundary as a matter of course, not exception.
