Ardington

Ardington is the kind of village where detached houses sit behind hedges and nobody is in a hurry — the sort of place that reads as settled rather than sleepy, with a population you could fit into a couple of large office floors and a density that makes the surrounding countryside feel like the point rather than the backdrop.

Money here sits comfortably: the area lands in the top income decile nationally and among the less deprived places overall, and that shows up on the street in the property mix rather than in anything flashy. Sales skew heavily detached and entirely freehold, with a median sale price well above both the national figure and the wider Vale of White Horse district — this is a place you buy into outright, not a flat-and-mortgage sort of village. The Hendreds Church of England School and St Amand's Catholic Primary, both rated Good, cover the school-age families who do live here, though the median age of just over fifty tells you this is more a village of established households than one filling up with young families chasing a catchment.

Safety is the standout: Ardington's rating sits well above the national average, and with only a handful of recorded incidents across the year, most tied to the broader "violence and sexual offences" category that dominates crime figures everywhere at this scale, it reads as a genuinely quiet place rather than a statistically flattered one. Health provision and connectivity trail the rest of the picture a little — decent rather than exceptional — and that's really the trade-off here: this isn't a village optimised for fast broadband or a GP on every corner, it's one optimised for quiet and space. Green space is modest in raw count but the feel is rural by default, not by amenity; you're not visiting a park so much as living inside the landscape already. Transport runs to a handful of stops rather than a station of its own, so this suits someone who drives as a matter of course rather than someone building a life around a rail timetable.
